Mid American Pompon

Q: What is Mid American Pompon?

A: Mid American Pompon is the premier provider of pompon & dance camps, clinics, & competitions in the State of Michigan (and beyond). Mid American has also developed it’s own specific style of pompon & dance that emphasizes athletic, visual, & synchronized routines. Any Middle School, High School, or Collegiate pom or dance team may participate in Mid American Pompon events & competitions.

A normal season for MAPP will consist of Summer Camps June-August, Hip Hop & High Kick Championships in November, Regional Competitions in January, & State Championships in February. In addition to competing, many MAPP teams also perform routines at their school’s Football & Basketball games, in parades, at special community events, and more!

Q: My child is interested in pom. How do they get started?

A: Each MAPP-associated pompon team hosts their own tryouts. Normally, these tryouts will take place in the Spring in preparation for MAPP Camp over the Summer. To be eligible, most schools will have specific GPA & class requirements that must be met, and each potential team member will also be required to obtain a physical prior to starting practice. For specific guidelines, please check with your school’s Athletic Department.

Mid American Pompon teams can be at the Middle School, High School, or Collegiate levels and are located all over the State of Michigan and beyond. Check with your school’s Athletic Department to see if they have an existing team to join! If there is not an existing team – we’d love to help you start one!

Q: My child is interested in private pompon lessons. Is this available?

A: Mid American Pompon offers private & group pompon skill classes at the Mid American Studio in Farmington Hills, MI. If this location is not near you, please reach out to us. We are often able to host virtual private lessons and may be able to send an instructor to you if it is feasible.

A: In order to be eligible to audition for the MAPP All Star Team, a pommer must:

  • Be a member of a high school varsity-level team
  • Attend an MAPP Summer Camp OR an MAPP Summer Day Camp

Q: My pommer auditioned for the MAPP All Star Team and was accepted. What do I do now?

A: Once a pommer has received an invitation to join the MAPP All Star Team, he or she must then register in order to be an active member. The registration form can be found under the All Star tab on our website as well as in our online shop.

Q: How should the Cougars fit? Do they run big/small or do they fit like standard shoes?

A: Cougars usually run about a 1/2 size small. You should order your pommer’s street shoe size & size up if they will be wearing a sock.

Q: How fitted should performance/jazz pants be?

A: Depending upon the style of pant your child’s team is wearing for performances, fit can differ. For the standard black, high-rise, flared performance pant, the item will be fitted through the waist, hips & thighs and flare a bit toward the ankle. For performance leggings, the item will be fitted from hip to ankle. Performance pants of any kind should allow for free & unrestricted movement. If the performance pants are too long for your pommer (they should be just past the ankle), they can often be cut with scissors to fit the needed length (**please check with your child’s coach prior to doing this to ensure that your performance pants are the type that will allow this alteration**).

Q: What performance shoes should my pommer wear?

A: Each individual team will decide upon their own performance shoe. Please check with your child’s coach on the type & style you will need to purchase. Teams often wear athletic shoes but may also require cougars or jazz shoes depending upon the performance need!

Q: I ordered items from Mid American Pompon. Can I exchange for a different size?

A: Yes! For full details regarding returns, refunds & exchanges, CLICK HERE

Q: When will I receive my ordered items?

A: Depending upon what items are included in your order, the timeline can be as short as 5-7 days. The timeline is dependent upon whether your item is something that we currently have in stock at our warehouse facility, or it is something that will need to be ordered from the vendor.

We allow for select items to be ordered when they are not currently in stock in our warehouse facility. This is the case for custom items such as poms or uniforms. Items that will potentially take an extended amount of time to ship item, such as cougars, will not allow pre-orders & can only be ordered when in-stock at Mid American.
