At the Hip Hop & High Kick Championships, teams compete within categories that are determined by the following criteria:
- Routine Type (Hip Hop or High Kick)
- Age or Level of Team (elementary, middle school, junior varsity, varsity, or collegiate)
- Number of Team Members
This categorization allows for each team to compete with other groups that are similar in skill, size, & age. Categories are determined by Mid American Pompon after the registration cycle is completed. At that time, each & every team & category are assessed to ensure divisions are equally competitive based on the aforementioned criteria.
